Urbinati CARBB | Automatic Compressed Substrate Big Bale Breaker

CARBB is an automatic compressed substrate big bale breaker designed for professional use in greenhouse and nursery production processes. The machine automatically breaks down large compressed substrate (peat) bales, producing a uniform and homogeneous substrate ready for immediate use in filling trays or pots.

The breaking system consists of steel teeth operating horizontally relative to the direction of the substrate bale's movement. The machine is fully controlled by a PLC system with a function display screen. The position of the bale lifter is controlled by an inverter, which allows the average bale feed speed and the breaker's minimum processing speed to be set and adjusted.

The machine is equipped with an optical sensor for automatic control of the substrate feed level, as well as a second sensor connected to an external acoustic signal that alerts the operator when the substrate bale level is low. CARBB is ideally suited for high-output production lines — it can be installed as a feed source ahead of an intermediate substrate buffer tank or a tray filler. The machine also allows the unused portion of the substrate bale to be stored directly inside it, maintaining the correct moisture level.
