Polytunnel construction and film replacement
SIA TERMOLAT designs, builds and refurbishes professional polytunnels. The work covers site survey, design, frame assembly, installation of the plastic covering, ventilation, and technical training for the client's staff.
Construction begins with preparing the ground and installing anchors, which are selected according to the soil type and the prevailing wind direction. The tunnel frame is mounted on the anchors and secured with longitudinal bracing and end frames. The plastic covering is then installed and tensioned. Tensioning is decisive, because a covering that has not been stretched correctly wears through quickly at the fixing points in windy conditions. For this reason the film is pulled on in calm weather and fixed along the entire perimeter. At the same time, side ventilation or end vents are installed, which are needed to regulate the temperature in hot weather.
Polytunnels are most often used for commercial berry and vegetable growing: strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, as well as leafy greens, herbs and early vegetables.
