In 2016, a low-voltage roof monitoring system (hereinafter - RMS) based on resistive sensors was developed. RMS task is to ensure continuous monitoring of the roof condition and to identify the place of damage so that it can be promptly repaired before major damage occurs. The low voltage RMS does not interfere with the operation of the building's robotic systems. There are already some RMS in the world, but none of them are fully automated and the existing RMS solutions are not economically viable for large roof areas - they mostly require high initial capital investment and are expensive to operate. In addition, they require a large proportion of manual work for localization of the damage.
The low-voltage RMS on resistive sensors basis developed by SIA TERMOLAT is fully automated, which ensures roof monitoring 24/7 and the report is automatically sent to JMS on the building. It should be noted that by using this system, the energy efficiency of the building is significantly improved, as when the thermal insulation gets wet, it does not perform its direct function and large thermal energy losses occur.
This system was installed in a 12,500 m2 warehouse in the Freeport of Riga, which was built by one of the largest construction companies in Europe - "Strabag".
Since 2019, SIA "TERMOLAT" has performed the research project "Capacity sensors for roof monitoring". The aim of the project was to study the possibilities of capacity sensors use to measure both the humidity and the load of roof structures. The research has been carried out as part of the project (project no. 1.2.1.1/18/A/001) “Energy and Transport Competence Centre”. ETKC's chosen field of smart specialization is smart energy, which includes three research sub-directions:
1. General issues of smart energy;
2. Smart engineering systems and energy production solutions;
3. Smart energy and transport.
